Cambridgeshire & Peterborough

For people, for communities, for life

The Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Future Parks Accelerator project is a collaboration between several local authorities and the Local Nature Partnership. It aims to find new ways to
deliver, manage and fund parks and open space, to ensure that they are available for everyone, for generations to come.

About the project

Greater Cambridgeshire is one of the fastest growing areas in England and Peterborough is one of the fastest growing cities, so they want to take a sustainable approach to development to create well-managed, accessible green space for everyone.

This project will help improve access to local, high quality green spaces to improve the physical and mental health and wellbeing of all who live and work in our county. As part of this, they will engage with those who use green spaces and work to understand the barriers for those who don't. Parks and green spaces also have an important role to play in helping tackle the challenges of the climate emergency together.

The project aims to

  • Develop the shared vision and common cause for regional parks and public open spaces.

  • Consult partners and empower local communities to get involved, driving a collective leadership and shared ambition for our parks and public open spaces.

  • Map and value open space and develop a plan for its management.

  • Identify long-term, sustainable funding and governance models for new and existing parks, securing their future for generations to come.

  • Evaluate and understand the project impact.

“Our vision is to secure a sustainable future where our green spaces can thrive, helping people lead happy, healthy lives for generations to come.”
